CATHIE SABIN

Most of Cathie Sabin’s life has been blessed with dogs. Cathie has been training dogs since the early "70's". Cathie started Better Canines Through Instruction while renting 2 different buildings and working with the local park districts in the area. At the time she was holding a job in the corporate world and worked with the dogs part time. In 1982, Cathie decided that working with dogs full time was the course of the future for her.

Cathie's experience with canine behavior comes from working with mentors and trainers across the country, attending Veterinarian College, seminars, workshops and conferences. Although Cathie feels that her course work is important, her hands-on experience with all breeds has proven to be more valuable than all the books and programs attended.

As a breeder of Champion Doberman Pinschers many of her puppies have developed into working Guide Dogs, Service Dogs, Search and Rescue Dogs as well as family companion dogs. Cathie competes in Obedience and Conformation shows across the United States with her Dobermans.

Cathie is an Approved Illinois Humane Investigator for the State and works closely with Animal Control and Rescue Groups training dogs so that they are easier to place and STAY with their new families. She has appeared in court as an expert witness for the County and adjoining Counties. Cathie is actively involved with current Canine Legislation affecting all breeds for Illinois dog owners. Cathie is also recommended by veterinarians, pet shops, groomers and breeders for her balanced approach to training. Cathie's expertise in training has helped many physically challenged individuals improve their quality of life by being able to be independent with the help of their dogs. Cathie has also trained thousands of puppies and adult dogs throughout the Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin area to become wonderful canine companions and family members.

Cathie offers all this experience to her clients through all the programs at B.C. Dog Training!

In her spare time, Cathie sits on the Board of Directors for 3 Rescue groups and on a Watch Dog Committee for Legislation, Illinois Dog Clubs and Breeders Association.

Cathie is a member of:

International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP)

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (ADPT)

Illinois Dog Clubs & Breeders Association, Inc. (IDCBA)

AMY GAYLE

For as long as I can remember, I've always had a dog in my life. I originally came to B.C. in 1996 to train my new Doberman puppy and returned to B.C. in 2004 after my loyal companion passed away and contacted Cathie to see if she could assist me in finding a new puppy. Fortunately for me she had three 11 week old pups that needed homes. She matched me up with the perfect one! I began training my new Dobe puppy "Zoe" at B.C. and found it to be a wonderful rewarding experience to see this silly young puppy grow into a beautiful well mannered dog. She did so well with her training that I continued through all the levels of the classes at B.C with her and eventually with the mentoring of Cathie became a trainer with the help of my awesome demonstration dog. Also during this time we added another one of Cathie's Doberman puppies "Zuma" to our pack and again went through all the classes at B.C. with him. Both Zoe and Zuma have earned their CGC (Canine Good Citizen) and TDI (Therapy Dog International) certificates and work at B.C. as demonstration dogs. Zoe makes regular visits to Lions Park School to show the students how important it is to train their dogs and assists them with reports they have done on dogs with "jobs".

I recently decided to do this one more time and got another 10 month old Dobe (again thanks to Cathie) named Zeke who will follow in the same footsteps of the more mature members of his new pack. I am very proud of my 3 well behaved dogs and enjoy working with students at B.C. to show them how much their dogs can bring to their lives when they put forth the effort to provide them with training and the direction they need.

LYNELLE DUCOMMUN

I have 3 cats & 2 dogs, all from shelters. When I got Sadie (Husky/Lab mix) in 2002, I signed up for a beginners obedience class at B.C. Within a month, we adopted Molly (Border Collie/Shepherd mix) who then joined the B.C. Dog Training as well. I was extremely pleased with the results and took them both through advanced classes through 2003.

In 2007, I decided to quit my full time job and learn to train dogs. I enrolled in an online dog training class with local mentors, which I passed with flying colors. Turns out though, this organization taught only positive training. When it was time for my mentoring at a shelter, no one could control any of the dogs using only positive practices. I was discouraged to say the least.

Frustrated with this technique, I decided to call Cathie Sabin to see if she did any mentoring. Cathie started working with me in September of 2007. I mainly work with the board & train dogs, though I've assisted in many classes as well.

I've trained about 45 dogs since then. No two dogs are alike which makes each training experience a new learning lesson for me as well. Each dog has their own unique issues, temperament and intelligence. If you've ever wanted to do something where you truly learn something new every day-this is it. Training dogs has been one of the most rewarding things I've ever done.
